The Indian Journal of History of Science (IJHS) was started in 1966 primarily with the intention of promoting research on various aspects of ancient, medieval and modern science from a variety of historical perspectives. It has been brought out uninterruptedly over more than five decades since its inception, under the guidance of Indian National Commission for History of Science set up by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). For a couple of decades in the initial stages it was published biannually. However, as the field of history of science started gradually gaining ground in India, a lot of interest got developed among the academicians pursuing their research in a wide range of disciplines. Consequently, submissions to the journal also started increasing as this was primarily the forum through which scientists, historians, sociologists, and philosophers could exchange ideas on the evolution, nature and methodology of scientific concepts and technological advances that took place in India over several centuries.
