"Acta Geotechnica" is an international journal devoted to the publication and dissemination of basic and applied research in geoengineering – an interdisciplinary field dealing with geomaterials such as soils and rocks. Emphasis is placed on the interplay between the geomechanical models and their engineering applications. Topics of interest include experimental, analytical, and numerical investigations into the mechanical, physical, hydraulic, and thermal properties of geomaterials as multiscale and multiphase media under different external agencies, drawing upon the various applications in geoengineering including (but not limited to) foundation, dam and embankment, underground construction, geohazard, georesource and geoenvironmental engineering. Papers with novel experimental, analytical and/or numerical approaches are welcome; however, experimental papers must be accompanied by mechanistic interpretations and/or modeling of the laboratory phenomena, unless the paper focuses on new testing instruments or new technologies. Manuscripts lacking in novelty or proposing incremental improvements to existing literature – in particular, marginal extensions of laboratory or numerical procedures – will not be considered for review. In addition to the scientific merit and novelty, the contributions for publication are selected for their application potential in geoengineering leading to reliable prediction and rational and sustainable design. The journal publishes research papers, review articles, short notes, and discussions, which will be published together with a reply from the authors. For review articles, the authors should approach an editor for permission before submission. Two-part papers are discouraged.
