Asian Englishes : An International Journal of the Sociolinguistics of English in Asia/Pacific serves as a scholarly forum for exploring the diffusion and diversification of English in Asia and the Pacific and examining its influences upon and incorporation into the language practices of individuals and communities associated with the region. The journal provides space for themes including: Attention to the diversity and complexity characterizing (English) language practices in Asia;Varieties of and variation in English in Asia, including their divergence & convergence (phonetics, phonology, lexis, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, rhetoric, multimodal interaction);(English) language policy, planning and testing, informed by pluralistic paradigms, in Asian contexts;The negotiation of being, becoming and belonging (identity and community membership) in and transcending Asian contexts;Trends and conceptual tensions in examining, theorizing, and modelling identity and interaction in and transcending Asia; andResearch into ELT practices and English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) informed by pluralistic paradigms, multilingualism, and translanguaging.
